Meijerska Lyyli and the City of Taavetti in Temmes
Step into the enchanting stories of Temmes with two unique guided walks: the charming Meijerska Lyyli Tour and the time-traveling From the Church Giant to the City of Taavetti experience. Walk in the footsteps of kings, feel the quiet reverence of the village church, or simply breathe in the serene riverside landscapes.
From the Church Giant to the City of Taavetti
This storytelling walk brings the rich culture and captivating history of Temmes to life. Hear fascinating accounts of theatre productions, traditional dances, willow weaving, horseback vaulting, and even wartime sky watching.
Begin your journey next to one of Finland’s largest poor man statues – known locally as the “Kirkon äijä.” Stroll through the peaceful church grounds, past one of Finland’s rare long churches and a forested cemetery surrounded by an ancient stone wall. The approximately 2-kilometre walk ends at the heartwarming and idyllic Wäinölä Village House – lovingly known as the City of Taavetti.
Stories from the Dairy – Meijerska Lyyli’s Tour
This light, one-hour guided tour takes place in the historical setting of the Temmes Cooperative Dairy, founded over a century ago. The walk starts in front of the dairy building, winds through the surrounding grounds to the traditional Hongansilta Heritage Bridge, and returns to the dairy.
During the walk, your guide shares stories of Temmes butter, the local dairymaids (known as meijerska), and delightful legends of royalty, ghosts, and love locks.
Before or after your tour, visit the dairy’s charming second-hand shop, Hinkkilä, where you can buy your own love lock and leave a personal mark on local history. Coffee is also available before the walk – or can be arranged separately for groups upon request.
Tours will next be available for booking in summer 2026. Arrange the date and request a quote with guide Briitta.
